About Me

Welcome and thanks for stopping by!  I'm super excited that you ran across my blog and are giving it a whirl.  I hope this little virtual pit stop turns into a regular hang out for you.

Here's the part where I tell you about myself :)

My name is Shelby. I am a quiet girl with a quirky sense of humor.  I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was five; today I hang out on the floor all day with my daughter.

I got married to my high school sweetheart, Josh, after which we went on a grand adventure.  He was in the Army, you see, and because of that we ended up living in Hawaii.  While there, our little family grew. After three and a half years "on island," as they call it, we moved back to the mainland with four souveniers - our two dogs, Radar and Davi; Ho-Jon, our lovable but slightly retarded cat; and our little goober, Adelle.

We now live in Arizona, while the husband finishes up his bachelor's degree in... well, film.  Yeah, its a little bit crazy to have a child, then quit your job and go back to school full-time.  It was a decision we made after a year of talking, fighting, and praying.  We're pretty convinced that this is where we're supposed to be, even though we know deep down that we're kind of stupid for even trying.

Okay, now about this blog!

This blog is a bit of a work in progress.  I thank you for sticking with me, and I hope that here you will be able to find a little bit of something that hits the spot - whether it be sharing crafts, using cloth diapers, eating gluten-free meals, or just talking about life.

I decided to use cloth diapers for the money.  With the hubby being full-time in school and all, trying to find the cash to buy disposable diapers for years to come just wasn't going to work.  My goal with sharing our cloth diaper world is not to rant about their superiority or rave about how they're the best things ever invented.  Instead, I hope that I can be a resource for new parents looking for alternatives when the finances are tight, or they just want to do something a little different.  If you want to know more about cloth diapers, start here.

The gluten-free eating thing started a couple years ago when my husband figured out that eating wheat was making him sick.  We're not the most faithful diet followers, but we do our best.  I consider it a personal challenge to get this family to eat healthy, yummy, and gluten-free without blowing our budget.

Oh, and I also have a soft spot for crafting.  My favorite thing to do with my limited spare time is sew anything from clothes to quilts.

I don't consider myself a pro at this whole cloth-diapering-my-child-eating-gluten-free-and-finding-time-to-be-crafty thing.  What I learn, I want to share with you on this blog.  The same goes the other way - if you find out something awesome, let me know! I love getting comments on my posts, posts on my Facebook page, and I'm all over e-mails, too.

Speaking of which, here's my e-mail address: thelittlemother[at]outlook[dot]com
